The idea of putting tiny foreign objects into your eyes at the start of each day can bring some stress and worry into your life at first. However, we’re here to tell you that wearing contact lenses isn’t as challenging or uncomfortable as you might think. Part of this has to do with the latest technology used to craft ultra-comfortable contact lenses. Once they are in, you won’t even notice that they are in at all! Wearing contacts is a breeze and can make a huge positive impact in your life if you know the proper techniques. Keep reading on to learn some contact lens care tips that will help you with wearing contact lenses.
Putting the Contacts In
This step is overwhelming for many first-time contact-wearers, but it shouldn’t be! To properly put your contact lenses in, you should first wash your hands. Make sure you are using anti-bacterial soap and thoroughly wash the soap off of them before putting your contacts on your hand. Next, you want to make sure that the contact lens isn’t inside out. Many contacts will have a 1,2,3 indicators on them that help you determine if they are inside out or not. Another way to tell is to look at the lens and see if it is round like a ball or shaped more like a soup bowl. You want it to be round. Using one hand, you should gently hold the upper eyelid of the eye you are putting the contact in. Carefully pull down your lower eyelid as well with your other fingers and place it on your eye.
Taking Your Contacts Out
Another part of wearing contacts is taking them out each day! Again, making sure that your hands are very clean prior to touching your contact or eye is essential. You want to gently squeeze the contact lens between your thumb and your index fingers to remove it from your eye. Don’t forget to discard your lenses each day if they are daily lenses. It’s also a great idea to set an alarm on your phone or computer to remind you with your disposable contact lenses should be replaced.
Give Your Eyes Ample Rest
Another key tip for wearing contact lenses is to make sure you are giving your eyes the appropriate amount of time without your lenses in. Contact lenses are extremely comfortable these days, and some brands even are safe to wear in your eyes for days at a time. However, you need to remember that contact lenses are indeed foreign bodies in your eyes and that your eyes need to rest on a regular basis. Make sure you are taking your contact out on a daily basis to give your eyes the rest they need. It’s also important to avoid falling asleep in your contacts!
We hope these tips make your life easier and improve your quality of life if you are a contact lens wearer!
